Fitness required. Ages 14+, under-18s with an adult. You must swim unaided in deep open ocean and get in and out of the boat by yourself.
International flights aren’t included — fly into Rarotonga International Airport first. Whether you stay in Raro for a few days or connect straight away, your Air Rarotonga flight to Aitutaki and back is included.
All stays are beachfront on the lagoon with kayak and/or SUP use. Every room has air conditioning, a fridge and its own bathroom and shower.
Tropical or cooked breakfast every morning at your accommodation. Lunch with cold drinks on all boat days (Mon–Fri). Dinner 6 nights at different spots around the island, including Island Night with fire dancing. Lunch on Saturday and Sunday isn’t included. Tell us about food allergies ahead of time.
Airport transfers on arrival and departure, plus daily transfers between your stay and the boat Mon–Fri. For everything else — shops, cafés, dinners, lookouts — rent a scooter or car, or use an island taxi or tour bus.
Around 4–5 hours a day on your private group charter. Meet the captain and crew, get a boat and whale-swim safety briefing (with a reminder each day), then swim with an experienced guide beside you. You’ll also explore the best islands, beaches and snorkel spots — giant clams, Napoleon wrasse, turtles, giant trevally and thousands of reef fish.
Rest after your trip. Most of the island is closed on Sundays but resorts, some cafés and beach bars stay open — or head out to explore the beaches and lookouts.
Packages are for ages 14 and over; under-18s must travel with an adult. All swims are in open, sometimes very deep ocean. You need to gear up, swim unaided and get in and out of the boat by yourself. Your guide is always last out of the water.
We can arrange a specialty package. We recommend booking out a full tour group for the week so your group can take its time in the water with no pressure from other guests.
We refund only if the captain cancels for unsafe weather, the boat is out of action for mechanical reasons, or the border is closed and you can’t travel. You can then reschedule, swap for another Wet & Wild activity, or take a full refund less reservation costs. Illness, accidents or no-shows aren’t refunded — we strongly recommend travel insurance.

OUR PACKAGES ARE GREAT FOR EVERYONE WHO LOVES WHALES AND ALL MARINE LIFE AND GREAT FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS AND VIDEOGRAPHERS. PACKAGES ARE 7 NIGHTS AND HAVE UP TO MAX 10 PER GROUP.
INTERNATIONAL AIRFARES are not included with your package, first you need to fly to Rarotonga International Airport capital of the Cook Islands. From there weather you stayed in Raro for a few days or just landed on an International flight connect with Air Rarotonga for your inter-Island flight (included) to Aitutaki.
ACCOMMODATION is all on beach front properties to the lagoon and include kayak and/or SUP usage. We use the best Beach front Bungalows and resorts on the island. All have air conditioning, fridge, own bathroom and shower + more.
TROPICAL OR COOKED BREAKFAST is provided every morning where your accommodation is.
TRANSFERS are included from the airport to your accommodation and return on arrival and departure day. Transfers are also included mon-fri from your accommodation to the boat and return each day out on the water.
You must provide your own transport to get around the Island to shops, cafes, restaurants for dinners, grocery stores, markets, view the look outs, beaches and anywhere else you want to explore on the island. The best way is by renting a scooter, car or island taxi or tour bus.
5 DAYS OUT ON THE WATER looking for Hump Back Whales on board private group charter boat. Encountering and swimming with the Gentle giants of the sea. (4-5 hours / day). First meet the captain and crew then we have a briefing on boat safety and whale swim safety in the water with reminder each day. With our experienced guide in the water with you to keep you safe and show you where to be and what to do, you will have an amazing time. Not only do we get the chance to swim with the whales but also explore the best Islands, beaches and snorkeling spots Aitutaki has with loads of marine life such as Giant Clams, Huge Napoleon wrasse, starfish, eels, Giant Trevally, Turtles and 1000’s of colorful fish.
LUNCH is also provided with cold drinks on all water days out on the boat mon-fri. If you have any food allergies please let us know ahead of time so we can organize suitable lunches for everyone. Lunch is not included on Saturdays and Sunday.
DINNER is included 6 nights of the week at different locations all around the Island for the best way to try everything Aitutaki has to offer from local island delicacies, international dishes and mouthwatering deserts. One night not to be missed is the cultural Island Night and show with amazing fire dance. I night you won’t forget and loads of fun.
SUNDAY FUNDAY Rest and relax after your long trip to the islands unwind and take it all in. On Sundays there is mostly no work and everything is closed but the Resorts some shops, cafes and Beach bars are open. Chill out with a few cocktails and some food. Otherwise if you are full of energy it’s a good time to check out the beaches, look outs and explore the island.
TRAVEL INSURANCE We highly recommend to all our clients travelling overseas to get travel insurance for any unforeseen circumstances. Check online for the best Travel insurance that fits you.
SAFETY FIRST our packages are for people 14yrs of age and over. Any youth on tour under the age of 18yrs must be accompanied by an adult. CAUTION / NOTE: Every person on tour including all young and old must have a certain level of fitness and swimming ability. All swims are in open ocean and some in very deep water. You must be able to do everything by yourself including gearing up onboard with snorkeling gear and being able to swim by yourself unaided. You must be able to exit and enter the boat and the water unassisted, sometimes while drifting in the water taking you fins off waiting for others so you can climb aboard the boat. The guide will be last to exit.
SPECIALTY SWIM WITH THE WHALE PACKAGE TOURS For those with family or friends younger than 14yrs and those unable to swim as well and may need floating aids, a specialty package tour can be arranged just for you. We recommend booking out 1 full tour group package for the week to take the time your group needs in the water without the pressure of other guests and still have the chance to make your dreams come true swimming with the whales.
CANCELATION POLICY As on our website www.wetnwild-aitutaki.com all charters and activities are payable in advance to confirm booking and secure date and time.
There is only 3 reasons why we refund and that is-
1. The Captain cancels the trip due to bad weather and is unsafe to operate.
2. The boat is out of action due to mechanical issues.
3. The border is closed due to Covid and you are unable to travel.
Then you can schedule to the next available time, exchange for any other Wet & Wild activity or we will give you a full refund less reservation costs.

To all VISITORS wanting to swim with the whales and all overseas INTERNATIONAL Whale Swim retreat/tour OPERATORS coming to Aitutaki Cook Islands, to swim with the whales – Please be advised that Immigration has now stepped in and you must have a legally registered business in the Cook Islands with a 50%+ local partner to run whale retreats to the Cook Islands, or here on a working visa for a local company.
So if you have gone and booked or seen any operators doing whale swim retreats to Aitutaki including accommodation , flights, food, days out on the water for a package deal ect… then they’re most likely not a local registered business in the Cook Islands. As far as we know we are the only Legal registered business in the Cook Islands doing whale swim retreat packages locally and internationally.
This year 2026 immigration stepped in to enforce the laws which had slowly been taken advantage of over the years (You can’t have an overseas website/business and operate in the Cooks paying the overheads and taking the profit home not paying any tax here. If you are wanting to do whale swim retreats to the Cook Islands then give us call or email for options on collaboration for tours. As the founders of whale swimming in Aitutaki and building up this amazing activity over the years for the Island being one of Aitutaki’s most biggest attractions and also having our own whale swim retreats, we are glad to see this problem being addressed keeping the money in our country .
